About
“When I paint, I just let myself go… completely.” Renoir
While I must say, I am not quite as unreserved as Renoir, I do try for a nice feel of spontaneity and flair for the line in all my fine portraiture.
Please, allow me to say, that my elegant and powder soft watercolor portraits can perhaps best be viewed as a foray into that rarified and highly artistic world where purity of line is the first and final impression. A place where harmony of line emerges as a performance if you will; rapid, yet delicate brush strokes that seem weightless, beautiful.
For me, these artistic performances should be of a moment, suddenly, and not the work of careful thought and studied preparation. Consequently, my portraiture may appear at times to be nothing more than quick and random sketches. I prefer the soft powdery colors unique to Old Holland watercolor paint and the fine elegant lines acquired with the superlative brushes of Escoda.
So, I am in the West and have frequented the western art towns of Jackson, Park City, and Santa Fe. I have always been drawn to paintings and sculpture that aspire to this harmony of line, wherever I can find it.
I hope you enjoy my elegant portraiture as much as I enjoy creating it. One never quite achieves a perfect harmony of line. But, on rare occasions, I have come close.
